Description
The vessel was built by Austal in 1999 under BV to
Australia USL 1B as a cruise ship, and kept under LR class since the early 2000’s. Current owners converted open deck areas into hospital spaces however all areas can easily be converted back to previous arrangements.
She is currently surveyed to Australian NSCV 2B and managed under a flag approved ISM Safety Management System. The vessel has always
operated in compliance with its minimum safe manning certificate.
Over the past few years, the owner has been considering the right timing to sell this current vessel in order to expand and move toward multiple, smaller
vessels to allow for an increased training focus and depth of community
development in specific geographic areas.
Austal has provided technical repair and maintenance advice to YWAM
MS since the 20-year special survey. The MV YWAM PNG has
had funding support from various sources, including Puma and the
Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which has allowed
the vessel to be maintained and upgraded. The ship has consistently
returned to Australia for annual maintenance.
The vessel was re-engined in January 2019, and tail shafts were
withdrawn and inspected in May 2021. The vessel will be dry docked at
Austal Brisbane in November 2022, with midterm surveys completed.
